We are Fundraising to preserve and restore our four Lighthouses
The Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers mission is to preserve, promote and educate the public and to make our lighthouses accessible to all. SPLKA manages and maintains four historic lighthouses on the eastern shores of Lake Michigan. Our roots began in 1987 when the Big Sable Point Lighthouse was about to overtaken by the wind and waves of Lake Michigan. A small band of local business people got together determined not to let that happen. Two summers of filling sand bags and using earth moving equipment put Big Sable back on a firm foundation. The small group then became a small non-profit, SPLKA, with the mission focused on the restoration and preservation of the Big Sable Lighthouse. In 2005 SPLKA expanded to include the Little Sable Point Lighthouse located in Silver Lake. In 2006 it took over the Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse and in 2012 SPLKA took over the operation of the White River Light Station located in Whitehall,MI. Preservation, promoting and educating the public about the historical significance of our lighthouses is critical to the historical preservation of our beautiful Great Lakes.
